Binge on the Arts: Reframing River To River for a New Downtown Audience

What: River To River is Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s annual summer arts festival, spanning indoor and outdoor sites across downtown New York. Founded in 2002 to revitalize Lower Manhattan after 9/11, the free festival has evolved into a major platform for contemporary performance, music, and site-specific work.

Goal: Following LMCC’s transition to lead producer and a broader institutional rebrand, the festival required a refreshed identity and marketing approach to better reflect its scale, energy, and relevance for contemporary audiences.

Notable: Studio Usher repositioned River To River as a must-attend summer experience, introducing the tagline ‘Binge on the Arts’ to shift audience perception from individual events to a continuous cultural offering. The campaign brought a more visible and joyful presence to Lower Manhattan, extending reach through airport advertising and a refreshed mobile experience that made it easier for audiences to engage with programming across multiple days and locations. The festival features artists including Yoko Ono, Philip Glass, Bill T. Jones, Patti Smith, Laurie Anderson, and Twyla Tharp.
